Nelson Mandela

Yesterday we had a reminder that greatness does not come without sacrifice. And yet, through it all, Nelson Mandela vowed to continue fighting - and he did.

Let his words inspire us in our fight to save are schools...

"A good head and a good heart are always a formidable combination."

"It always seems impossible until it's done."

"Education is the most powerful weapon which you can
use to change the world."

  1. Its a good blog but its fizzling out quickly. Went from 100 comments to 3 or 4. Not sure how to spread the word so people in the district know it exists and can write in anonymously. It would be very effective..er highly effective, if we had more reports daily or weekly of the incidents happening all around the district.

    1. I think it's all political.... with a racial undercurrent. I am retired from the SCSD and most of the teachers I know bend over backwards for the students in the district. They are caring, good people. About 80% of the students are caring and good, too. But there are those 10 to 20% that really cause most of the constant disruptions and violence. They really do ruin it for everyone and the behavior becomes contagious - without consequences and appropriate interventions. I think the civil rights of the non problematic students should be the focus. Teachers cannot do their jobs in a racial, punitive climate - they are not the problem. They need a work environment in which they can actually teach. The district should have a comprehensive behavior plan that holds students accountable for their behavior and encourages responsibility while providing more supports for the students. Parents also need to do their jobs in preparing their children to behave and learn - after all they are their children's first "teacher". Finally, teachers need to model positive behavior for their students. I know suspensions are not the answer but a release valve from the bad behavior. The SCSD needs to help the kids, but at the same time provide a safe environment in which teaching can occur. Respect is a value that should be embraced by all stakeholders.

  3. I think it is ridiculous and not nearly enough students are suspended, regardless of race.

  4. I think the AG is investigating because Sharon Contreras wanted him to! Somehow she's going to use this to further her agenda.

  5. As a former teacher, I am appalled with the current situations in the SCSD. The parents need to unite for the safety and education of their children. There is nothing more important in this stage of a child's life than the opportunity to learn and succeed in school. Find out what is working in other schools, and replicate it! No excuses.
