Moving Forward

The "Group of Ten" volunteers from the Be Heard meeting will get together later this week to review and refine proposals for an action plan to be presented to the district and the board. The goal is to create a viable plan which can be implemented immediately to help reduce the violent and disruptive behavior that continues to plague the Syracuse City School District.

Contrary to the beliefs held by many community organizations,
this movement is not about punishment.

This movement is about ensuring that
all of the students
in the Syracuse City School District
have a safe and healthy environment to walk into
each and every day.

We hope that the district and the board keep open minds when presented with the final proposal. We also hope that they - and all of us - refuse to let the fear of what few may do, paralyze us into inaction when faced with questions of what is best for all.

  1. Thank you so much for helping to make the school district a place to learn. Truthfully, keeping disruptive students in a classroom is a form of punishment for those who want to learn! Our administration wants us to time out very disruptive students in a teammates classroom!

  2. I certainly hope this happens soon. Our school is getting worse by the day. Teachers are so disgusted and everyone walks on egg shells. The STA letter today discusses a discipline committee that is expected to work on change for next year! Seriously? We cannot wait until next year to make changes. I cannot staff is expected to work in these conditions. I cannot believe our union is allowing us to work under these conditions. I thought we paid them to protect us, isn't that why we pay dues?

  3. That's always the answer. If they're disruptive in one class, why do administrators think they will be better in another? Could it just be they want them in timeout in another class so they (the admins) don't have to deal with them?

  4. We can promise you that we the plan that has grown out of the "Be Heard" meeting will be submitted within a week of this Thursday's editing session. We will wait for no one. If other organizations want to endorse it and carry it forward, that would be welcomed. If not, our united effort (Be the Change and Take Back our Schools) will carry it forward. The public and several of our elected officials have heard us loud and clear. We have the momentum. Even the Buddha says, "There may come a time when one must not turn away from open conflict." We are at that time.
